These structured exercises will enable you to hear doubling and tripling when translating melodies you hear into finger movement. All the exercises are the same, they are just applied over different modes. The seven modes are Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Miolydian, Aeolian and Locrian.Â

Ex 1, First play the exercises and try to work it out on the piano before you see the solution. Don't worry about proper finger placement until you see the solution. Once you have worked out the exercise, open the solution and make sure you get your fingers correct.
Ex2, the note doubling exercises is same exercise as Ex 1 however you're now doubling the notes. Going up from left to right, going down from right to left. Doubling is used in many songs of all genres. You're also developing your ear to hear the sound of doubling so you can recognise it when you're finding melodies.
Ex3, Â the triplet exercises, is the same exercise as Ex 1 and Ex 2, however you're now playing triplets and developing your ear to hear the sound of a triplet.
