Exercises 4 - Flight of the Bumblebee
Exercises 4 - Flight of the Bumblebee
The Flight of the Bumblebee is a good example of chromatic movement. We'll investigate right hand movements.
The finger placement exercises are for the right hand. Look for similarities, example bar 1 and bar 2 is exactly the same as bar 3 and bar 4 played an octave lower, all the interval-finger placements are the same. Use the finger placement exercises to work out your finger placement.
Don't use the sheet music or finger placement exercises as a crutch, look at your hands to memorise the pattern. The pattern your hand make isn't to complicated if you follow the flow of your hands which directly relates to the relative pitch you hear. This is why it's important to listen first before you trying to play anything. Listen for pitch changes, see when the pitch rises and falls, this will help you greatly when you're trying to memorise your finger movements. Your visual memory is going to help, so don't forget to look at your hands once you've worked out what your doing.
Instructions on how to play finger placement exercises.
The music is in the key of C but the chromatic moves take it out of key often. I want you to notice the note G# in the bass, from Composition 2, we learned that a IIIM was a chord in the harmonic minor scale, introducing the note G#, is this music in C Aeolian? Em Phrygian #4 is also in the key of C and also uses the note G#.
